Background of GrandeLASH Serum
Amazon product description hails GrandeLASH-MD as
Is it Grande Cosmetics’ leading product? Yes, Alicia Grande founded Grande Cosmetics with its leading product, GrandeLASH-MD Lash Enhancing Serum in 2008. Grande Cosmetics, a skincare, hair care and makeup brand, also produces 40 plus products including GrandeBROW and GrandeHAIR enhancing serums.
Is Grande lash serum safe? GrandeLASH-MD Lash Enhancing Serum has “peptide-packed Radish Root Ferment, hydrating Hyaluronic Acid, antioxidant-rich Grape Seed Extract, soothing Honey, and lash enhancing Isopropyl Cloprostenate”, which nourish and enhance healthier and longer eyelashes, says the Grande Cosmetics website.
It also informs that GrandeLASH MD is free from dyes, latex, paraben or silicone and so there would not be any Grande LASH MD side effects. Grande Cosmetics also claims that
Cosmetic chemist Kelly Dobos says that the eye lashes serum “contains a prostaglandin analog [called] isopropyl cloprostenate,” which is listed as a cosmetic ingredient on the INCI (International Nomenclature Cosmetic Ingredient) database. It is claimed that the eye lash serum has gone through rigorous cosmetic testing for safety and ToxServices LLC, a famous toxicology firm has performed a safety review for the product.
Jennifer Ator, PhD from ToxServices LLC stated “As part of that Grande hair serum reviews, a toxicological risk assessment was conducted, including eye color change and periorbital fat loss, and no scientific evidence was found to support that GrandeLASH-MD nor isopropyl cloprostenate could cause such side effects.”
Roots of GrandeLASH Lawsuits
Alexandra Mandel
Alexandra Mandel filed a Grande LASH lawsuit on January 6, 2022 in the US District Court for the Northern District of California. Her proposed Grande cosmetics class action lawsuit claimed that Grande Cosmetics’ lash, brow, and hair serums contain a harmful drug ingredient, isopropyl cloprostenate (ICP), which should only be used under a doctor’s supervision.
Mandel used the GrandeLASH-MD serum and developed a growth in her eye, which required surgical removal. She argued that Grande Cosmetics knew about the potential harm but continued to sell these products as cosmetics to avoid regulation, despite them being drugs under California law. She sought to represent all affected consumers in California, asking for damages, legal costs, and a trial by jury.
In July 2023, a court rejected a settlement proposal in this Grande cosmetics lawsuit because the settlement offered wasn’t seen as fair. The issues were that it only offered vouchers for more Grande Cosmetics products, had a small cash component, and expected a very low number of claims from affected customers. The court allowed Mandel to try to propose a new Grande LASH lawsuit settlement but as of the latest order, no new proposal had been submitted.
Mandel then tried to stop a similar Grande eyelash serum lawsuit in New Jersey from settling, fearing it might undermine her own case. She wanted her lawyers to be recognized as the main lawyers for the class of affected consumers. However, the court denied her requests. It ruled that Mandel couldn’t use the All Writs Act—a law that lets courts issue necessary orders—to stop the New Jersey case because it didn’t threaten her case’s jurisdiction or present an extraordinary situation requiring such intervention. The court pointed out that injunctions to stop court actions in other districts are very rare and not justified in this scenario, especially since Mandel’s settlement hadn’t been approved or even resubmitted.
Genna Ribak
A Los Angeles resident, Genna Ribak purchased GrandeBROW Brow Enhancing Serum and GrandeLASH-MD Lash Enhancing Serum for herself and for her family by placing orders on Ulta.com and Sephora.com in 2020 and 2021.
She filed a proposed Grande LASH class action lawsuit on October 6, 2021 alleging that the defendants deceptively claimed that the enhancement serums are safe cosmetics and have no active drug ingredient or no adverse Grande LASH side effects. However, the serums, “contain the active ingredient isopropyl cloprostenate (“ICP”), which is in the same class of compounds as the active ingredient found in prescription drugs that grows eyelashes, like Latisse.”
Had the plaintiff known the presence of the harmful ingredient in the GrandeLASH serums and the potential GrandeLASH side effects, she would not have purchased the serums.
The plaintiff purported that Grande Cosmetics should have applied for regulatory approval for the serums as they contain a drug ingredient- isopropyl cloprostenate. Grande Cosmetics had not sought any such approval, instead brought the serums to market as cosmetics.
The Grande LASH serum lawsuit also alleged that “Grande Cosmetics unlawfully sold hundreds of thousands of units of the Enhancement Serums to California consumers at around $65-$125 apiece.”
However, this proposed Grande LASH serum class action lawsuit was voluntarily dismissed by the plaintiff without prejudice on January 5, 2022. The reason for the dismissal was not stated in the notice of dismissal.
Brenda Nixon
Brenda Nixon filed a proposed Grande Cosmetics lash serum lawsuit in November 2022 in the New Jersey District Court against Grande Cosmetics products, GrandeLASH-MD, GrandeBROW, and GrandeHAIR Enhancement Serums. This false advertisement claim alleged that the manufacturer failed to disclose the information on GrandeLASH-MD, GrandeBROW, and GrandeHAIR. The Grande lashes lawsuit alleged that the ingredient Isopropyl Cloprostenate can pose adverse health risks.
On January 8, 2024, Grande Cosmetics has come to terms with a settlement of $6.25 million in order to avoid unnecessary court expenses. The class action is neither trialed nor has the manufacturer admitted any wrongdoing.
Under the terms of the GrandeLASH MD lawsuit settlement, all the class members could receive a cash payment of $150 even without any proof of purchase. If excess money remains, it would be distributed among the class members with a maximum payment of $300 in total, if they produce the proof of purchasing more than one Grande products.
Consumers who purchased Grande products should file the claims on or before February 27, 2024 to be included in the Grande LASH settlement. A fairness hearing whether to approve the settlement is scheduled on March 13, 2024.

Allegations and Defense
The Dailydot.com reports the allegations of one of the consumers of GrandeLASH. A TikTok user named Marina Neuman gave the product review of the eye serum with her swollen eyes.
She commented the look of her face as follows: “It’s finally now starting to look like a massive stye. I looked like Quasimodo from the hunchback of Notre Dame yesterday…When I saw the doctor on Tuesday, my face was so swollen that it was actually draining out blood. My eyelid was halfway closed.” Her doctor confirmed her that one of the Grandelash ingredients in her serum caused her the issue. Many other consumers too reported of eye issue in the comment box of her story.
Grande Cosmetics reacted to the allegation of using Isopropyl Cloprostenate that it was a hair conditioning cosmetic product, which is used internationally in cosmetics. To the accusation that the ingredient Isopropyl Cloprostenate is a drug used to treat glaucoma, Grande Cosmetics called it as some “misinformation.”
According to the INCI Decoder, “Isopropyl Cloprostenate does work when it comes to eyelash growth, however, it is not without possible side-effects and is kind of a controversial ingredient,” and it could cause “… ocular irritation, hyperemia, iris color change, macular edema and ocular inflammation… and the FDA is generally not happy about prostaglandin analogs being used in cosmetic products.”
